Sweetness and Light : Liam Pieper


A real slice of contemporary Australian fiction, Sweetness and Light carves out the story of Conner, an Australian expat, living and working in an overrun tourist beach side hotspot in India. Shaped by his brutal past, Conner manipulates and profits off scams on westerns travelling through and seeking enlightenment from a jungle-based ashram run by a guru. When one of his dodgy dealings backfires, a series of events unfold and the forces of darkness and light rise to the surface. Together with Brooklyn born Sasha, Conner and her must learn to navigate their way through a world equally as corrupt as it is beautiful. This is a sharp and honest piece of writing that portrays the unsettling truth about souls, people and places that were once pure and now tarnished. Set in a context not readily explored through writing, this is a unique journey that sends your moral compass deeper and deeper.
